The Stargazing Mage
Elf | 75 | Male |
Lawful Good | Mage | Chief Mage |
appearance, Absalom is an old-man with rugged features and a short, thick boned frame. He appears unusually burly for an elf since his dwarf-like proportions are more commonly seen in elderly humans- regardless, his short height does not make his sage apperance any less impressive His face has many wrinkles and signs of aging, including his right eye which is hard of opening. Although not completely blind, it’s sight is murky and less responsive than the left. Normally seen wearing a mages outfit suited for his position, Absa’s appearance invokes respect. Although his status as wise mage is noticeable through his stance and expressions alone, he is still a reasonably easy going person that shows a more playful side while still wearing an overall stern look. The sort of warm grandfatherish appearance that seems kind even when not smiling at all. | personality, A reserved and educated gentlemen, Absa is usually fairly quiet and removed from social situations in general. While previous occupants of his seat were mediatic and famous, he is essentially unknown to those outside of the sorcery circles with this not counting a few non-mages that might have heard about his knowledge and expertise. He is constantly giving out an aura of serenity and composure, rarely displaying intense emotions of anger or fear. He speaks in a calm, collected voice, being benevolent, but firm. Because of his upbringing, he disagrees with the traditional elven standards and goals, and It’s not uncommon for him to mock or chastise those that focus too much on their bloodline. Terra Heroum’s obsession with “merit” also rubs him the wrong way since his experiences have made him believe that effort and results are too loosely tied and the only important thing is to “have fun, while keeping track of oneself”. He loves to see people thinking and reaching new conclusions about all sorts of subjects, especially young’ins. He considers himself a relic whose time has come and gone, being keen on bringing attention to his advanced age. It’s also common for him to lecture those younger than him, this counting double if they are some sort of hot-headed punks. |

history,
Born to a relatively wealthy elven family, Absalom was not a welcome addition to the clan. Being born to the daughter of the family’s head when she was just 16, he never met his father and felt that his grandparents and mother looked on him with disdain. Eventually he came to understand that he was the product of a transgression between the young elven maiden and some no-good human wanderer. Although he had drawn more from the elven side of the family, his appearance was obviously less of an “adonis” than the standard elf.
When he was 17 he set course for the city of Dracon, in hopes of meeting his father, an endeavour that would eventually fail but that caused him to stay in the city for a couple more years. There he came into contact with Valentine’s School of Magic and was taken in by one it’s professors. He was never incredibly bright or hardworking but by being submerged and obsessing with that world for several years he began to show some proficiency at it.
The professor that first brought him in had become a mentor figure to the young elf, eventually being promoted to chief mage and making Absalom a professor in the academy.
Years went by and Absa became more and more knowledgeable. History, nomenclature, theoretical systems; All things related to magic were devoured to feed his curiosity. His knowledge of the world grew as well, and although he was only an average mage for a great portion of his life he began to evolve late into his life. Eventually, his mentor died and left a touching letter of recommendation naming him as his successor. This was generally accepted by his peers that had since grown to respect him as a “truly visionary and quirky individual”. This happened when he was 40.
He blames his learning curve for being too ‘‘steep’’ but admits that in the last 5 years he grew more as a mage than in the past 5 decades. He thinks the cause is his irregular style of thought, and theorizes that
only only now is he grasping magic in it’s true form.
Despite this, all those familiar with him know that his perception of magic is different from most, capable of understanding it in a unique, more in-depth level than even some other more powerful mages.
Facts:
-He is generally loved by his students, although most think him a bit odd.
-He considers the fact that a large amount of the population is unable to perform magic a great sadness.
-He is a passionate astronomer, getting his nickname from this hobby. He also incorporates the mottif into his theories and spells.
-He has a certain difficulty taking mage girls seriously, openly admitting his bias against them.
