Yoh Kioung
The Wandering Chronicler
Human | Twenty | Male |
Chaotic good | Warrior | Chronicler |
appearance, Hunger consumes Yoh, as he is a starving wanderer: while having a certain amount of muscle, Yoh also happens to be under-fed: unfortunately, the life of a Chronicler has yet to give him the fortune he wishes for, and so he's had to skip a few meals here and there. Yoh's gaunt face and dark eyes show his lack of rest, but his gaze does not waver. Yoh's dark hair is always wild and messy, Yoh not having the means to care for his hair. Yoh has few clothing, wearing what has on his own back. His body is mainly covered by his sleeveless dark blue hakama, and his neck is warmed by a steely blue scarf. Wakibiki-style armor extend from Yoh's waist to protect his thighs, and his forearms are covered in rough armor as well. Yoh walks around on sandals, which have created calluses on his foot and hurt like hell. | personality, If one was to describe Yoh in two words, it would be intense... but also naive. Yoh has always been passionate about history, especially regarding the Age of Heroes, and spent much of his younger years reading through books about it. Yoh is obsessed with his goal of chronicling the rest of what the Age of Heroes has to offer, so much that he puts himself in harms way and travels at a whim to where the news is in the country. Yoh will do whatever he can to be the one who writes history, and in this way, he is intense. Yoh has put himself through hell and back, and honestly hasn't gotten far in his journey, but he hopes that somehow, he will find fortune in recording the history of this world. So, how is Yoh naive? Well, up until he was eighteen, Yoh had never left the town that his family essentially owned: Yoh only knows of the rest of the world through book smarts, he doesn't know crap about street smarts. Yoh is far too trusting of people, he lets people trick him, take his food, take his money: he'd probably not be in as awful a situation as he is if he hadn't let people take advantage of him. Still, Yoh recognizes a true enemy when he sees one, and knows a true ally as well. |
history,
For hundreds of years, the Kioung family was one of the richest families in Sendaikuni: the Kioung Dynasty began when generations ago, Jun Kioung discovered a new type of herb. The Kioung family was the only one who could grow the herb, named Kioung Grass, and it was soon found that the herb has distinct healing abilities. The Kioung family had a distinct monopoly on this herb, and soon enough they were one of the richest clans in Sendaikuni. Over hundreds of years, though, Kioung Grass became harder and harder to grow. Slowly, over a few hundred years, the amount of product that was being grown shrunk.
As a child, Yoh had two choices for a career: he could either be a soldier, as many Kioung had even before the discovery of the Koung Grass, or he could become the head of the household and keep the family's enterprise in order. Yoh had to make one of these two choices before he turned the age of eighteen, considered the age of a "man". When Yoh was five, he was given a library, and in this library, over a period of ten years, Yoh studied the history of the world. Yoh's life was study and swordplay, both of which he excelled at. Yoh had no interest in either being a soldier or the head of the household: he just wanted to be his own man. Yoh ultimately knew that this wish was futile, and decided to simply enjoy the life he had until turned eighteen.
A week before Yoh was to turn eighteen and make his final choice, his father held a meeting to announce that the Kioung Grass was dying out, and within five years, there would no longer be any growth of the product. The Kioung family, living off the discovery of their ancestor for hundreds of years, had no idea what to do: the great Kioung Dynasty was to end and they would lose everything and reduced to mere beggars. It was Yoh that decided that this was the time to find his true path and create a new fortune, so the Kioung Dynasty could live on. In such a time of crisis, it allowed Yoh to become his own man. Armed with his family's ancestral blade, he boarded a boat going overseas, to Terra Heroum.
