Valek Ashburn
Golden Knight
Elf | Twenty-Two | Male |
Lawful Neutral | Warrior | Sword of The Elves |
appearance, Valek is a tall and slightly slim figured man, as most elves tend to be. His hair is a golden blonde that drapes itself down over his face, however when in combat and dawning his armor his golden locks are styled upward and away from his face. The young elves eyes are a crimson red in color and do well to highlight the elegant features that the rest of his face displaces. While Valek's ears are still pointed they are not lengthy by any means, and its not unknown for his hair to hide them well while it's down. Hidden underneath his clothing and armor are a series of tattoos layered across the upper portion of his body, all of which are thick red lines. | personality, Most elf's pride themselves on their noble nature and of their race. Valek is no exception to this but he at least takes it to slightly lesser degree than most, having been slightly humbled by a painful experience in his past. An experience that shifted the once overzealous and very prideful Valek into the elf he is today. That elf being someone who on the surface hardly takes anything overly serious, and is often times found cracking wise and making bad jokes. Those who knew him in the past would be surprised by the sudden turn in his personality. One of the only things slightly recognizable about Valek is the charismatic way he carries himself, it would be safe to assume that the word shy hardly ever comes to mind when thinking of him. Of course Valek didn't gain his job as the sword of the elves because he's some kind of idiot, who'd much rather spend his time flirting and sleeping with women and making jokes. Valek is a fearsome swordsman and while it might not seem like he's paying attention the young man certainly is. He's spent years of his life training not only his body, but also his mind. It’s easy for Valek to tell the kind of person he’s dealing with just by looking at them as often times that’s all you really need, the way a person stands, dresses, or even moves their hands can tell you a lot about them and Valek has picked up on how to read those signs. While not a expect at it he certainly knows what he's doing. And his ability to think on his feet is what really makes Valek stand out from the normal rift raft that claims themselves to be a swordsmen. He can adept, and adjust himself too accordingly to the enemy that he is facing. Underneath the playboy and seemingly careless attitude that Valek has developed for himself, is the man he once was. A ruthless and deadly individual who took countless lives without so much as a second thought, because someone else commanded him to do so. A person whose pride was so high, and who was so sure of himself that he thought he was better than any hero that could come before him. That was until it all came crashing down, when he failed to protect the most important things to him. It has resulted in a slight break in his personality. A break that only caused him to shift how he acts, but also add a want to redeem himself. Still it can be hard to fight the monster living just underneath the surface. |
history,
Valek was born into family of proud and noble elf warriors and from the moment of his birth he was taught, that he was better than others. That as a Ashburn and as an elf he was entitled to great things, and he bought into them. The moment he was old enough to wield a blade was the moment his father began his training, training that consumed large portions of Valek's childhood. He would spend days and nights in his family's training ground doing nothing but honing his swordplay, and attempting to make his father proud. All building up to his thirteenth birthday when he managed to disarm his father in combat, finally showing true promise within his father’s eyes. That moment also marked the days his training got harder and branched away from mere swordplay tactics, and into reading and understanding your opponent. When he wasn't training or sleeping, Valek found comfort and happiness in the company of a fellow elf girl his age. Sarah was her name, and she offered him a much needed escape from his life at home. The two would often run around the forest together, and play Hero and Princess.
At the age of sixteen Valek had 'matured' in the eyes of his father and reached a level of skill where his father allowed him to undergo quests alongside him and his fellow brothers in arms. While not all of them went along smoothly, a decent chunk of them did go well and allowed for Valek to show his skills to the other elves in his village. By the age of eighteen Valek had drawn the attention of a local lord who wished to employee into his service as the leader of one of his group of guards, to which Valek willingly agreed. It was the first of many steps towards his goal of becoming the first Ashburn hero of legend, something his father wholly wished for him to reach. He was only a two months in to his job severing the lord when the man showed his true colors as a ruthless person, and ordered Valek to strike down a village that refused to pay him money. A task he found hard the first time he was ordered to do so, but as the lord kept ordering more and more deaths....Valek began to grown numb to the action of taking an innocent life. Reminding himself that this was all for his goal of being the greatest of heroes, but was this really heroic?
The line between heroic and in-heroic blurred as the years went on, and by the age of twenty Valek had all but lost sight of what it meant to be a true hero. His pride though, it stayed intact. That was until everything came crashing down atop of him. He was tasked with leading a mission; he was to assume control of a group of bandits for his lord. Should they refuse to take up his kind offer Valek and his men where to kill them. It probably would have gone along smoothly if he hadn't caught sight of Sarah enslaved within their tiny little encampment. The two had been exchanging mail for quite some time prior to this point, and about two months before the mission that had all but stopped. He now knew the reason why. His pride took the best of him, and he assumed he could save Sarah. That he could kill every bandit and get away with her. How wrong he was.
He and his men didn't stand a chance against the bandits, whose leader had a powerful magic weapon at his disposal. He killed every last one of Valek's men and made him watch as he stole Sarah's life away. A piece of him broke. The young elf barely managed to escape the situation with his life, but the damage had already been done. He left his lord that day. He vowed that no more would he allow for things like foolish pride to slow him down, that he would change. Thus he built up a wall around himself. Two years after this event Valek was approached in bar about becoming the sword of the elves, and he agreed. This was a chance to redeem himself, to do some good.
