your company would make the restless nights eaiser to bare He wasn't wearing his armor today, and that mostly had to do with the fact the rep didn't seem to have any plans on going anywhere that would require it. So instead Valek found himself dressing in much more comfortable attire as he wandered through the library finger moving along the spines of the books that lined the various shelves. He wasn't in the library for any particular reason, most of the stuff he felt he needed to know was already stored within the vault that was his mind. Still, if something caught his eye he'd be sure to grab it and spend the rest of his night scanning through its pages. Perhaps he should be spending this time figuring out a way to reenchant his sword no? Another time, as something far more interesting than books caught his eye.
A bottle of a misplaced wine set atop a nearby desk, and as his crimson eyes stared at he could feel it calling to him. A slight sigh escaped from his lips as he placed his hand against his chest, the bracelets attach to them clinking together as he did so. "But I can't!" he cried aloud, "I do not know whose lips have touched thee, and should you belong to someone I'd hate for them catch us together." he took a step towards the bottle, and narrowed his eyes. A sly smile crossing his lips as he kept on acting like he could hear the whispered words of the object, "Oh you are so naughty. I suppose...one sip won't hurt." he finished approaching the bottle and grip it within his hands, his eyes closed as he placed it to his lips and began to drink the red liquid. Pulling it away from his lips moment later and he turned himself around, and leaned against the desk. "Oh wine, how you'll be the death of me."

"Hopefully not too soon, though. I'm afraid I'll have need of you for a bit."
The new elven representative had been hitting the books harder than he had in his entire life recently. He wasn't prepared at all to represent an entire race before the council, and he was trying as hard as he could to make up for that. Human customs, beastkin customs, current events, things that might be grudges, so many things he'd have to be aware of in order to not let his people down...he was rather annoyed things had to move as quickly as they did, but times were dark at the moment.
But then, he'd happened to see the man that had briefly been introduced to him as his bodyguard, and he couldn't resist the chance to go see what the man was like. He needed a break anyway.
“Now, I hope I'm not embarrassing you in front of the glass, but be careful. Believe you me, I know what it's like to get on the bad side of a sweet, tall bottle, and that's not a fate I'd wish on my worst enemy.” His tone shifts slightly. “Now, aside from talking up someone else's drink, what brings you to this wretched corner of the woods, Sword of the Elves? I'd just as soon pretend it didn't exist myself.”

your company would make the restless nights eaiser to bare The thought of another person being within the library had crossed Valek's mind, but he hadn't expected the person to be the very man he was supposed to protect. A man that Valek surprisingly knew very little about. In the past the young warrior wouldn't have taken the job unless he knew all the details, such was the teaching of his father. Now though? He took it without so much as a second thought and with so little details on the matter. Valek smiled, "Oh I wouldn't worry about it that much. I've got plenty of wine drinking years left in me before it steals away my life." at least that was the plan anyway, live long, drink many bottles of wine, and sleep with many women. Something about being a hero was supposed to go in there as well but that was really just a side goal right? He took another sip from the wine bottle, and brought his full attention towards the brown haired elf that was his boss.
"The bottle wasn't yours was is? I'd hate to have made such a bad first impression." he chuckled lightly, "Though I suppose if you saw any of the stuff leading up to the bottle I've already done that." he hadn't exactly approached it like a normal person now had he? Hopefully that wouldn't end up with him getting fired that certainly wouldn’t go over well with his families honor and pride. The first Ashburn to be made Sword of the Elves and the first to be shunned away because he was some sort of madman. He could hear the stories already. "Please sir call me Valek. If I'm going to be protecting and advising you, you should really call me by my first name. Besides formalities get in the way of the fun stuff right? All those sirs, and misses. I mean don't get me wrong.." he took a drink from the wine bottle, "I understand how to use them, but we're going to be spending a long time together." he flashed a smile and then held the bottle towards Savas offering the man a drink. He wasn't sure why he was here but surely he could take the time to enjoy himself.
"As for why I'm here, I honestly couldn't tell you. This is my first time being within the tower, I've spent most my life elsewhere. I suppose you could I'm just curious...exploring my new home." and trying to do anything but sleep. "What about you sir? What brings you to the library at this time of night? I thought you'd be on the upper level sleeping or preparing for the next meeting." when even was the next meeting? Stuff like that was something he probably needed to know after all he was in a position of power.

Savas grins at Valek's retort, clasping the elf on the shoulder. “Now that is the proper attitude to these things!” He could tell they'd get along already. “None of this 'tomorrow we die' rubbish like I've heard back with the Scouts. A lot of them got fired up hearing that before a big expedition, but it was always the biggest buzzkill.”
Valek's question was defensive, even if he passed it off as a joke. “Don't worry about it. You'd have to be pretty petty to get a bad first impression on someone just because they have exquisite taste in wine, wouldn't you say?” He winks. “Though, in the future, I would recommend being faithful to your own bottle. Taking sips from everyone else's tends to make less calm people upset, and with our mission being diplomatic, well...” He trails off, the message clear. He had a sneaking suspicion he needed to throw in the subtext as well, and the man seemed smart enough to catch it.
Taking the bottle, Savas grins. “Good to meet you, Valek. I'd personally like it if you do the same, but I'm sure there'll be some fuss over it down the line. When we're off duty, though, you call me Savas.” He shakes his head. “Are you as new to this as I am? Because I'm dreading having to go through those...how did you say it? Those 'sirs and misses...'” He shakes his head. “I'm gonna miss when the only person you needed too call 'sir' was your commanding officer, believe you me.”
He laughs at how out of place his new friend was. “No worries, Valek. As for me, well...we're gonna be off to Dracon way sooner than I'd like. I barely have the time to find out what my responsibilities are, let alone anything approaching political nicety. If we had more time, I could afford to get sleep and study up on it at the same time, but...fact of the matter is, we don't have time.” He darkens. “I...believe you're aware why there was a space for you in this position, are you not?”

your company would make the restless nights eaiser to bare It certainly seemed as though Valek and his new boss were going to get along pretty well, so far the two of them seemed to have the same approach to things. Although the young elf knew that it was a little too early to be judging how his relationship with his boss was going to be, he knew from experience not everyone was who they appeared to be on your first encounter with them. "Good thing I didn't join the Scouts then, don't think I would have been able to handle the buzzkilingtons." maybe if he had joined them his life would have turned out differently. Thoughts for time when he was alone, and not learning about his employer. "Glad to hear your first impression of me hasn't been soiled just yet, leaves me plenty of room for future mistakes." the meaning behind Savas's words became clear as he spoke, diplomatic mission. Thus starting something by stealing someone else’s wine would be a problem, he'd be sure to keep that mind. Saying anything on the matter wasn't needed, but he did nod his head to make sure Savas knew he got the message.
These were tough times and filled with a lot of tension, they didn't need a war breaking out with the humans or beastfolk because of a bottle of wine. He doubted anyone would take the matter that seriously but still, one could never be too sure. He had seen men kill over lesser things. He had killed over lesser things. "The pleasure is all mine Savas, it's not every day one gets to work with such an important man. Though I suppose that makes me important to right?" Valek let a light chuckle escape from his lips, "Two of the most powerful elves sitting in the same room, we're just walking targets." it was the truth though. Now that Savas had risen to his current position people would be after him, and the same could be said for Valek himself. He had to watch Savas's back just as much as Savas had to Valek's, a partnership that required both men to trust each other with their lives.
"I'm actually not so new to all of this. I served a lord for quite some time before being asked on as your sword. That was a life time ago though." he let out a heavy sigh and up towards the ceiling. A lifetime and a bunch of mistakes ago, mistakes he'd much rather forget. He couldn't though. They were the fuel for the fire that was driving his heart now; forgetting would put out the flame. "We're leaving so soon after you've gotten your position? You'd think they'd give you a month or so to adjust and learn all the information you need." but if they needed to go, they needed to go. A suddenly tension filled the air when Savas's face darkened, and Valek found himself folded his arms against his chest. "It's because of your father right? His death. The entire reason you've suddenly risen to power." yes, Valek wasn't as clueless as he led everyone else to believe.
"I heard he was murdered and I'm assuming that the person who was guarding him, the last sword was killed as well. Forgive me if I'm stepping over the line here." he unfolded his arms and let out slight sigh before moving away from the desk and towards the bookshelves. "I'll be quite honest with you, I don't know why out of everyone they'd pick me for this position. I'm not exactly a well know elf warrior. I suppose that might have been the point, but you probably know more about the matter than I do."

Savas nods. "You're right. My father was murdered, and his retinue are nowhere to be found. They are presumed dead as well. And as much as I'd like to spend my time mourning Father and drinking plenty of the very fine wine available to me...well, it's not to be. The perpetrator's are out there, and they're organized. Word must be brought to the other races about what happened. They probably already know, but it needs to be made official. We have a pretty good idea about what group did it too...it's not like they were subtle...
Shaking his head, Savas swigs the bottle. “Nah, don't worry about it. You're saying what needs to be said. I asked you the question, didn't I?” Setting the bottle down, he shrugs. “Dunno myself. You look like you can more than handle yourself in a fight, which is all that matters, isn't it? And you said you had experience being someone's sword, so hell, you seem as good or better than any elf I could name.”
He grins. “And just about any other elf I could has much worse taste in alcohol than you do, so I'm grateful to whoever hired you on I have you aboard. I could've just as easily not had a drinking buddy following around, and that'd be so much of a shame I don't think I'd have known what to do with myself.”
Something clicks in Savas' head. “Right, you should probably read this.” Handing a small primer up to his bodyguard, Savas shrugs. “It's about all we know about the attackers, judging by what they've revealed. Apparently Pact Mages, the lot of them. They tried to raise a scene thirty years ago, and got put down for their trouble. Apparently, they're back and mean business.”

your company would make the restless nights eaiser to bare Murdered, that's not something any son wants to hear happened to their father, and then to be trusted into such a powerful position so soon after his death. That was adding salt into already very open wound. Savas didn't seem that affected by it though, the way he spoke was like he was very much in control of his emotions. Was he really though? Valek supposed it didn't matter. His boss could be dying on the inside but covering it up with that swagger of his, and rightfully so. Showing weakness like that would cause people to have a certain lack of trust about his ability to lead them. "You handle it better than me. I'd be boiling over with rage and sorrow, but that's why you're leading and I'm following." not that Valek wasn't a capable leader; he certainly had the experience of it.
"You're right though, the other races do need to know. If they were willingly to take your father's life even while he was guarded than you can rest assured they might try something against the other reps." which is why gathering all of them in one place might have been a very bad idea. Perhaps that was what they were expecting, for everyone to gather and then make their move. It's something Valek would certainly see himself doing, striking while the enemy was vulnerable. The young knight made a hmm sound as Savas handed him a set of papers, which Valek gladly took. His eyes scanned the pages while the older elf explained what kind of information was printed on the pages. "The Cult of the Dragon? I heard about them. They worship a dragon and in return are granted powerful magic." at the cost of losing themselves along the way.
A lot of people were willing to take that risk if they were going to gain power in the process, and Valek would be lying to himself if couldn't admit to be interested. Some people had to be able to fight against that kind of effect right? A strong enough will to fight off the influences but keep the power. "There goes that pride again, haven't you lost enough to it already?" he would think on this matter more in his personal time. Right now he needed to actually advise his boss on how to handle this matter. "Listen. I understand wanting to warn the other reps but having a meeting right now is dangerous. It's something the enemy could want to happen, so why not send a letter?" he sighed. "Actually sending a letter is a little too informal, and could be intercepted. So I've got a better idea, why don't you send me? I'll head to Andor and inform the human representative of the current situation, you can follow behind me later? After you've had enough time to gather you’re baring." The idea was good, but it also left Savas without his bodyguard for a while. Valek felt like it was the risk, but sadly the option wasn't up to him.

Savas smiles, though it doesn't quite reach his eyes. “Thank you for saying that. I've had my grief, though. Right now, all I'm caring about is making sure nothing like this happens to anyone else, at least, not because of those bastards.”
He takes a breath, steadying himself. “I can see you're aware of the potential for more tragedy as well as I. Just as I can't allow the Elves as a whole to appear shaken after the assassination, we can't let it seem like something they can repeat and be successful. There's too much at stake.”
As Valek recounts what they know about the Cult of the Dragon, Savas nods. “That sounds about right. They're people who wholeheartedly want to change the entire world, to mold something new out of the land and people that are living just fine as things are.” He clenches his fist. “It's something that needs to be dealt with.”
Listening to Valek's admonishon, Savas frowns. His plan had flaws, and he was aware of it. The most glaring of which was that they might be preparing to attack all three of them should a meeting be convened. However...those meetings were fairly common occurrences, so it didn't seem to add up to him. However... “That seems like a fair enough compromise to me. While you're in Andor, you can scope out the place and make sure meeting is safe.” He grins. “Just try not to make too much trouble for me in the area before I get there, alright?”

your company would make the restless nights eaiser to bare Savas said he had time to let himself grieve but something told Valek that hadn't actually been the case. With the sudden lost of power within the Elf community he highly doubted they gave Saves much time to mourn the death of his father, before tossing him into his current position. It wasn't his place to pry though and even then these thoughts were merely speculation, no need to stir up problems this early into his career as the Sword of the Elves.
Valek folded his arms firmly against his chest when Savas began to speak about how the Cult of the Dragon desired change, wanted something new to happen to this world. The young elf let his body leaned against one of the bookshelves and look towards the ceiling above them, his eyes closing. "Is change really all that bad? Look at the kind of world we live in today Savas. It doesn't exactly feel like one of peace." he turned his head to face Savas, and his eyes opened a fire burning inside of his crimson eyes. "I don't agree with your methods, but their ideology is something I can wholeheartedly agree with. This world needs change. If that means moving away from the Age of Heroes then so be it." was he perhaps going a little too far?
Some thoughts were better left kept inside your mind, but they were talking about an important matter and thus Valek's true feelings needed to be shared. "I feel like I have to tell you that I'm not of the mind to attempt to force ourselves to change. If this world is going to move passed where we are now...then it has to be done of our own free will. Otherwise it holds no meaning." after speaking this Savas would find that Valek's demeanor returned to its playful nature. Glad to see you like my plan!" he pushed himself up from the wall. "I should probably leave tonight then? It's a few days travel from here to Andor, and the sooner I leave the sooner we can get things settled."

Savas raises an eyebrow at his subordinate's remark. “I'd argue the world is relatively peaceful, considering the machinations of the cult and the phantasms are taken into account, none of which would change were we not siding with whatever particular demon this group had struck their deal with. And while change is far from inherently bad, it must be tempered by reason and consideration. Change for the sake of change is no better than the worst stagnancy.”
He goes from puzzled debate to a frown at his next words. “Agree with their ideology? They're a cult, Valek. It's a very tiny collection of the people seeking to both destroy the old order at the cost of the peaceful lives of all the people in the three kingdoms. If this is a popular movement as opposed to one made from malcontents, I've yet to see much evidence of that. As far as I can tell from what I've managed to glean, they're simply in it for personal power.”
As Valek clarifies things, Savas sighs, shaking his head. “I apologise, Valek. I...suppose I'm not quite as over this as I should be. This is probably still a...personal matter, on a few levels. I hope you'll forgive me for being disrespectful to you. I do hope you'll take my words into account, however. Like you said yourself, the change needs to happen of our free will, not the will of a group of usurpers.” Slumping down on a chair, he looks up at the younger elf, a smile on his face. “I hope nothing personal was taken, by my life, I'm sure I'll be needing your help a great deal in the days to come!”
At his suggestion, Savas nods. “Leave whenever you think is right, I have faith in your judgment. If you need time to prepare, take it, if you can be ready by nightfall, ride with the heroes of the past.” He grins. “Don't worry about me, I have plenty of company.” He waves a hand among the piled books with a rueful smile.
