May be being the follow-up to two of the most educated individuals wasn't such a good position to be in. There was definitely a crowd forming for this debate but it wasn't nearly as excited or abuzz with discussion as the last one. If anything, the question on everybody's mind was "who is this joker". The name on the announcement read "Nightmare Darklight", and frankly nobody even knew who that was or why their parents would name them something that out-there. He signed up for the debate so he at least had to know what he was doing. The other was the Fang of the Beastfolk, Armando Luna. Newly recruited to the position, he wasn't exactly a household name in Ba'dagar quite yet, but at least some people knew who he was. Perhaps that wouldn't work in his favor though, because he was known as a fighter, not an intellect.
The two were set up on a stage, each with a podium and with the announcer located between them. They were all positioned as such that the crowd could see their faces. The announcer was a human male, dressed for the occasion and hired by the Representative to help run the debate.
"Welcome everybody to the next round of this year's Declaration of Intellect! My name is Hans and I will be your announcer for today's events. Now, we have an interesting duo on stage that seem good with a blade, but can they wield their minds just as well? Let's find out!"
From his own podium, Hans pulled out a small piece of parchment and set it down in front of him, clearing his throat before continuing.
"Without further adieu, the topic for this Declaration of Intellect is...'Expanding trade beyond Terra Heroum's borders will only result in lost lives and lost resources'. Isn't this an unexpected choice? You both know the topic now. Mr...Darklight, you will be going first. Pick whichever side of the topic you feel comfortable with and start us off."
The stage was set, the cards were dealt, it was time to see how these two would handle the issue thrown at them.

HAI YAI FORCES
And so it was that the debate would begin. He had heard who his opponent was. Someone closely linked with the beastfolk. Okay, this wouldn't be too bad. Not only that, but with hearing what the topic was, he felt that he had a pretty good foothold already. He already had an idea of what side to argue for, and the fact that he got to go first meant that he had a chance to snatch up the easy side of the topic. So as he got up on the stage, he gave a slight bow with a confident grin as he took to his podium. He had no notes, nothing to prepare, he would just go by his own well, intellect. This was going to be fun.
At least until he uncorked a bottle of whiskey, the cobra still inside, took a swig, and staggered a little.
He may have been slightly drunk.
He had heard about this particular Beastfolk too. Knew what he was based in, so the strategy for Nightmare would be: steal the side he'd take. "Gentlemen, ladies. Very lovely ladies, you know who you are." He gave a wink. "Expanding trade beyond our borders will result in lost lives and lost resources." Nightmare remarked, "But it is also very necessary." He continued. Taking sides did not have to be such a black and white issue, now did it?
"Indeed, traveling beyond our borders exposes us to several nasties that will undoubtedly get the drop on us at first. And trade, by its very definition, is giving up one resource in return for another." He really wished he could move from his podium. But no, he had to stay standing. He could always think better when he was moving, when he was fidgeting, when he wasn't sitting still. "But that is how civilization is born. What did we do for Terra Heroum to become what it is? We expanded. Not without sacrifice, but we expanded. Because of this, we are better able to feed, support, and protect our population. Something that cannot be done without expansion."
Nightmare leaned back a bit. "So while we lose lives and resources while expanding, they are necessary. Our population will grow and we will have to find ways to feed that growing population. More people will die to issues like famine if we decide to remain stagnant rather than expand."
dis gon be gud

Why did he decided to join the debate showing again? Oh yeah, he wanted to go head to head with the smartest that each race has to offer. Yet, here he is, facing a man that look like he one or two drinks away to being drunk. Hopefully he has enough brain power for a good debate.
'...Expanding trade beyond Terra Heroum's borders will only result in lost lives and lost resources...'
A good topic for a debate, one with points on each side. Armando, himself, don't really care for trading but the fact that his people are being lost in sea is another story. Unfortunately he didn't have a choice on the matter if he pro or con today.
"Expanding trade beyond our borders will result in lost lives and lost resources." Nightmare remarked, "But it is also very necessary."
It look like he is con today, now how to play it? He can alway play the "lost live" card but he want to save it till the end. Oh, he know the perfect way to start it! And Nightmare had set it up just right for him to do so.
"Mr. Nightmare is right, our Terra Heroum was founded and made by expanding. Yet, have we truly expanded enough? Or in this case, explore? The land that we live in is still a huge mystery to the three powers. Have we found everything that here?"
He stop to let that sink in, using the small break to drink some water that the host had prepared. He was ready to let out a deal breaker, something that would mold how this debate will go. He set the glass down and let passion slip into his voice.
"I say no! The unknown sand are still unknown and the Draconian Mountains are just as worst! Why should we send out our people, our family, to go trade for something and risking their lives? When we could of have the same thing in our land without even knowing about it!"

HAI YAI FORCES Nightmare stood there and waited, taking another drink of his whiskey. He looked inside the bottle briefly, just to make sure the little shit inside wasn't still alive. That would probably be bad. He was sure he would lose points if the cobra jumped out of the bottle and started slithering amongst the spectators. "Bad." Nightmare spoke up as Armando finished his point before looking over to the sharkman. "Just as bad." Getting scolded by a drunk for grammar, that... there's no words for that sort of thing. But he supposed he should actually make a point rather than just criticize this guy's grammar. Though maybe it wasn't a bad idea. Part of winning a debate was knowing how to win the people over to your side. A charming man could win just as easily as a brilliant scientist, just by wooing the crown. "But isolation will inevitably lead to stagnation, and ultimately annihilation. You exchange long term prosperity for short term security." Still, he could at least try to play fairly. Taking another drink of his whiskey, he looked to the bottle for a moment. "Please, give me the name of an isolated nation that wasn't conquered and destroyed by an expanding civilization." To his knowledge, he could not think of any. Of course, this may have been an issue, but he doubted it would be. "Take your time, I'm here all night." He finished as he took another drink. grammar nazi

He was lucky that he can control his emotion so well. If not, then he would of reach over and attack his opponent second ago. He can understand being competitive but what Nightmare was doing was plain rude. Not only to him but to the people watching.
"Mr. Nightmare, have you forgotten that we only known of Terra Heroum history? Unless you know of another nation that wasn't share to the three power then there no answer to that question." He pause to think, testing the words in his mind first. "Let's get to the issue on hand. Why should we trade with them if we know nothing about them? How do we know if they have something we need and, if they do, what do they want in return?"

HAI YAI FORCES
Did Armando really just challenge him at his own game? Did he really ask that? Declaring there was no history beyond that of Terra Heroum? Nightmare couldn't hide his smirk, which slowly slipped into a grin. The more this man talked, the more he dug his own hole. By the time he finished, Nightmare's teeth were bared for all to see before he placed his forehead in his right hand, letting out a condescending laugh. He shook his head and composed himself, leaning against his podium, taking another swig of his cobra whiskey.
This debate was over.
Nightmare looked to Hans, then Armando, then looked to Hans again. "You want to tell him or should I?" He paused for a moment, not really waiting for Hans to get a word in. "No?" His gaze turned to Armando, his grin never leaving his face. "Well okay then." He stood up straight and turned to the crowd, leaving his head turned to Armando however. "Yes, Mr. Fang, whom speaks for the entirety of the Beastfolk, I do know of another nation: Sendaikuni."
"The same Sendaikuni that is currently trading with Terra Heroum and has been for the past two centuries because we have resources they want and vice versa? The same Sendaikuni that we have been able to record and document for two centuries? The same Sendaikuni that has expanded beyond its borders rather than isolating itself? The same Sendaikuni that discovered us by doing the exact opposite of what you suggest? The same Sendaikuni with embassies in every city state, including yours?"
Nightmare gave an arrogant shrug. "Will that do?"
Crossing his arms, he leaned forward on the podium. His eyes narrowing, refusing to blink as he stared Armando in the eyes, never breaking his gaze nor turning it away. He asked a question, and he hoped it would be piercing. "Who are you, that do not know your history?"
