The stage was set for the first round in the Human bracket of the tournament. This would be one match of many taking place within the old, dirt-coated arena. It hadn't seen much use in a while, but today it would see quite a bit of use from those wishing to prove their might and their potential as Future Heroes. The crowds were cheering as the barred doors opened, permitting the combatants into the main arena. It was a wide, circular arena with several pillars erected in various locations, but otherwise lacked much in the way of decoration. The sun was high and the stage was set.

Shivers of anticipation shook Sasha’s body as she stood before the thick wooden door leading out into the arena grounds, thin, watery beams of sunlight slipping through the gaps the only light she had available to her. As she waited for the attendant to give her the go ahead she occupied herself by listening to the cheers of the crowd, more people than lived in her whole village waiting just beyond those doors, waiting impatiently to see her fight, to see her worth. The noise was loud enough to penetrate to where she stood, creeping through the walls around her and into her ears. Many of them were even stamping their feet, a rhythmic sound that reverberated in her chest like a heartbeat; or maybe it was her heartbeat, pounding loud enough to be audible. She’d never been so anxious in her life, or so excited.
She adjusted her armour, settling the slightly too large clothing more comfortably on her shoulders. A nod from the attendant and she was moving, her already gauntlet clad hands pushing against the doors and forcing them open, letting a blinding amount of sunlight in to brighten up her world. The arena was simple, a plain dirt covered floor with several large pillars dotted around, but the scale of it was like nothing she could remember experiencing. Not before she had first arrived in the city at least, she’d been seeing things like this since she’d hopped off the merchant’s cart. The people though, the sheer number of them was something that would be harder to get used to. She was used to knowing everyone, every face being familiar, even a friend; to see so many strangers now was a little disorientating. And they were cheering so loud, and there were stamping their feet, she hadn’t been wrong.
She walked to the centre of the arena, her leather boots kicking up clouds of dust in her wake, drinking in the noise. It wasn’t for her, not exactly, it was for the tournament; it would be for her if she won however and already it was a heady feeling and an even headier thought. For her to win here would be an amazing achievement; even though it was only a name, and a pretentious one at that, if she were to win the Declaration of Future Heroes it would be premonitory of her future success.
Sasha stopped before she reached the centre, so caught up in her own thoughts that she didn’t notice the person standing there until now. Her white skirt billowed in a slight breeze that occasionally exposed the shorts made of a dark material beneath as she paused. taking the time now to observe her opponent as best she could, before the fight started and she lost her chance. Her opponent was a young woman, older than Sasha, with flowing brown locks and an eye patch covering her right eye; she was about as tall as Sasha and held in her hands a large two handed sword.
It was apparent that she was comfortable with a sword from the way she held it, not to mention the fact that it was clearly a nice sword, a lot better than anything Sasha had ever wielded or even seen. Her armour was good quality as well and would surely be able to take almost anything Sasha could dish out. Suddenly the young hopeful wasn’t so confident anymore but she didn’t let it shake her for long; the covered eye was still a weakness that could be exploited and so far all she knew was that this was a woman with the money to buy expensive equipment.
Observation concluded for now Sasha turned her gaze to her opponents face and widened her smile a fraction. This wasn’t easy, as her grin was already so big that if she widened it any further the top of her head threatened to pop off. She paced back a couple of steps, retreating to a distance she felt comfortable starting the fight at and decided to engage her opponent before the fight started.
“Hi, nice to meet you. My names Sasha.” She took a fighting stance, turning her body to her right and placing her left leg forward; her left arm rose and hovered before her, ready to catch any attack sent her way while her right was pulled close to her body and held at waist level, ready to strike or retaliate depending on her opponent’s action. “Once this match is over maybe we can get to know each other.”
Her grin was still wide, but now her eyes had changed. Gone was the awe at the crowd, the hesitation at her opponent or even the excitement about the upcoming battle. The grin remained but Sasha’s eyes displayed her seriousness for all to see.

» A tournament in celebration of the Heroes. Dorothea had participated every year she had been able to, she had missed last years because of that situation with Johan. Now she returned, not as a returning champion but as the Right Hand of Humans. The pressure she felt was minimal compared to the pressure she had felt in previous years. She supposed it was because now that she was second to Hilda, she didn't need to prove herself anymore.
"Dorothea Prevedell versus Sasha Rivello!" The announcer shouted out as the doors opened. Dorothea strode out of her waiting area and headed toward the center field. The entire stadium had it's eyes on her. They knew that she had won previous tourneys before and were expecting the same here. Let the crowd cheer. They were expecting a show and she would give them one.
The opponent chosen for Dorothea also approached the center. A young woman with long blonde hair that was being blown in the breeze that had kicked up. The girl looked less than formidable, yet Dorothea reminded herself that looks could be deceiving. The Left Hand was proving that.
Sasha Rivello, the name of this challenger apparently. Her armor looked cheap and there were no discernible weapons. A martial artist perhaps? That would explain the gauntlets without the rest of the armor.
The real surprise came when Sasha took her battle stance. It was a stance that most martial artists in the Andor Guard would default to. Though this girl didn't seem to be an expert it was clear she was trained by one.
"Well met Sasha, I am Dorothea Prevedell, Right Hand of Humans." Dorothea introduced herself. "Today however, I am your opponent. Do not hold back in this fight, and do not expect me to." With that warning Dorothea raised her blade.
Rushing at Sasha, the former guard captain swung her great-grandmother's sword at the girl. With the magic wards in place around the arena, there was no chance of actual damage, though it would hurt like hell. Dorothea swung again, she wondered how well that armor would stand up against the Sword Prevedell.

Sasha’s eyes widened in shock and recognition at the woman’s introduction; the Right Hand of Humans was a figure that even she was familiar with. Isolated in her little village the title and the person who held it meant little to Sasha, but she still recognised it for the lofty title it was. She was fighting one of the highest ranked citizens on the continent.
She was given little time to think about this however as the politician raised her sword and rushed Sasha, closing the distance she had sought to put between them instantly. Fast.
Dorothea brought the large two-handed sword up and around with ease and swung it down at Sasha in a heavy arc. Her gauntlet could be used to block the hit, being made of thick and sturdy metal with just that in mind, but she was used to fighting with no protection at all and her instincts still leaned towards evasion and would continue to do so until she had time to retrain them.
Shifting back Sasha allowed the sword to pass through empty air and considered herself safe for a moment. The two-handed sword as she was used to people wielding it was large and cumbersome and took time to reposition after a swing; this turned out not to be true for someone with more experience with it as Dorothea easily reversed the swords direction and swung it upward even as she continued to advance, pursuing Sasha and catching her off guard.
The sword raked along Sasha’s chest, the leather armour doing little to stop it, before it flicked free and managed to catch Sasha on the cheekbone with its tip along the way. Pain, real pain like she had not experienced before, surged through Sasha’s chest at the contact and she couldn’t stop the yelp that escaped her lips. She clenched her teeth together and chastised herself for the slip.
She stumbled, caught herself, and planted her feet solidly back on the ground. Instead of letting the pain get to her, of retreating away from the sword and its wielder, Sasha forced herself forward, pushing off the ground to throw herself at her opponent.
Aiming for her opponent’s right side Sasha stepped forward and brought her right arm up at the same time. She moved into her opponent’s blind spot, the part of her vision obscured by cloth and swung her arm around to strike at the left side of her face, seeking to remove her sight entirely for the time being.

» The bare punch Sasha directed at Dorothea was just shrugged off by the warrior woman. "You had to go for my good eye huh?" A good strategy in any battle, keep the enemy from tracking your movements. The attack itself didn't do any harm to Dorothea as her metallic eye-patch absorbed all the damage, and half of the blinding attack Dorothea supposed.
"Good job with that jab." Dorothea complimented the young woman she faced. There wasn't much Dorothea could do at the moment. Being unable to see left very few options in the way of combat. So she chose to bide her time. It was doubtful her opponent could pierce Dorothea's armor with a fist.

Sasha’s eyes widened when it became apparent that Dorothea hadn’t even so much as flinched at her attack. She took a couple quick steps away from the Right Hand, still standing off to her side, and paused a moment to breathe. In that lull Dorothea complimented her on her jab, a sentiment Sasha took to be sincere since she couldn’t detect any sarcasm in the older woman’s voice.
Sincere or not it still stung her to hear it; it felt like false praise. She would never admit it, but Sasha was shaken. She had seen fights ended with hits like that before but in this case it had meant nothing.
Well, maybe not nothing. She could see how Dorothea was not looking at her, had not turned her good eye towards her even now, so maybe her attack had at least managed to blind her. A small victory, but it put the smile back on her face nonetheless.
Wasting none of the precious time she had bought herself Sasha charged in once more, again aiming slightly to her opponent’s right to put her behind Dorothea. When she was close Sasha pivoted on one foot, rotating her hips to dive a punch into Dorothea’s kidney, pitting her strength and her gauntlet against the former guard captain’s sturdy armour.
Pulling her fist back Sasha then lashed out with a kick, her shin snapping out to clash with the back of the Right Hand’s left knee. Even if she couldn’t do any damage there were still some things that couldn’t be blocked by armour, she could still blind and she could still force her opponent to the ground.
