Appearance

At first glance, Zevran can fool you into thinking that he can make an impression. Blue hair, with eyes to match, certainly should be a lot more eye-catching than it is. The fact that it is natural, likely some early manifestation of his magical gifts, makes it even more so. He's received quite a few comments on it from others in the Academy, and has thought about dying it, but believes it would be far too difficult for him to keep consistent, considering the kind of assignments he gets sent on. Besides, that's just more work in general.



However, his relatively unathletic build combined with the nondescript robes he tends to wear make that his only real distinguishing characteristic. His clothes tend to be drab, usually consisting of a simple, easily cleaned overrobe, though it does tend to have a great many pockets in it. Paired with two durable but plain shoes, and he's just as ready to comb through the Academy library as he is to delve into some godforsaken cave in search of the Grimoire of Watsitoya or the Spellbook of Nonyabiznis.

Personality

Zevran has a rather troublesome personality. He doesn't always have the easiest time getting along with other people, always managing to find the wrong thing to say at just about any opportunity. His friends generally just get used to the fact that he doesn't mean to be rude, and help him along. Most of the time, though, he'd much rather find a nice, quiet place to go through new magical theory and immersing himself in in it.



When faced with unusual situations, however, he can think up solutions to complex problems quickly, and think well on his feet. This is rather different from how he normally prefers to spend his time, and far from the kind of person that most others in the Academy think of him as, but it's really not so different between the two places. Whether it's reading through the latest treatise on thermodynamic conversion to sneaking through a waterlogged grotto that used to be a necromancer's hideaway, it's all about focus, concentration, and observation.

History

The child of a pair of well to do artisans in Dracon, his talent for magic was discovered early as he levitated a book he was reaching for but couldn't quite get to. Soon after that discovery, they had him sent off to the Valentine School for Mages, hoping that he could learn to use the gift he was given in a way that was of help to others.



He took well to the life of a scholar...perhaps a little bit too well. He became a bit of a shut-in, spending most time he wasn't in a classroom in his study. Which is all well and good, but not everyone thought that was the best way for a boy to grow up. One of his professors, a man named Sebastian, invited him along on the ruin investigation he was leading, he made an impression by noticing a trap that had dodged the detection spell cast, pushing the leader out of the dart-shooter's line of fire. Whether it was an intuition based on the design of the chamber, or his experience with machines that his family's business had put in him, even he couldn't say. Either way, it was the start of the next page in his life.



From then, he's been shanghai'd aboard the Retrieval branch of the Valentine Library, essentially, a team of mages tasked with exploring old ruins and dungeons in search of art, texts, or anything else of value. While he grumbles about the assignment and talks a big deal about how he'd rather be back studying, there's a certain light in his eyes that shines when he's exploring some new place, of danger and mystery. In any event, it keeps life interesting for him.
