Oberyn Avidan
a Magician?
ELF | 35 | MALE |
NEUTRAL GOOD | MAGE | HORRIBLE MAGICIAN? |
appearance, The scrawny, silver-haired elf with ears only slightly pointy. His emerald-green eyes, and his dark skin make a clash of mysterious, but his appearance of loose clothes label him nothing more than a filthy cutpurse. He is well-kept, cleaning and fixing his hair on usual occassion, and keeps beards to an absolute minimum. He looks wise for his age, but that wisdom betrays his actual personality. His darker skin comes from a line of desert humans and forest elves. There also seems to be a birthmark on his left hand, marking him easily as what his title would suggest: The Horrid Magician. | personality, What can be said about Oberyn? He believes himself smooth but is not. He calls himself wise, for what merely is intelligence. He believes himself a powerful mage, when in fact he is the bottom of the barrel. A false bravado, and he more knows it than anyone else, but he continues his facade because he has to prove to the world that he's somewhat of a competent magician. And spoiler alert, he isn't. But when called out on his magical ability, he immediately dawns a sassy personality, and immediately finds a disliking in the person who labeled him so. Oberyn is a better thief than he is a warrior, and a better warrior than a magician. He casts his spells, sure, and he casts them well some of the time. Other times, not so much. All a matter of luck, so to speak. On another note, Oberyn's friends mostly consist of males, and his interests are; surprisingly enough, into males. He disgusts feminine features, and is not so easily seduced by the ladies. He does not try to court though, because he first must prove his magic capabilities, of which he has none. At all. Even a tidbit. Not in the slightest. He's reasonably friendly, but often times his bravado and his skills don't match up, and often he gets the short straw of the friendship batch, and is sent right to their shitlist's. Often times this gives OBeryn a splitting headache, almost like a mountain had been slung upon him. Sometimes, even his eyes are hurt by this mountainous headache. It eventually goes away. |
history,
Come one, come all for the tale of the worst magician to ever be born! Little Oby was born to a desert human and a forest elf, retaining most of his mother's genetics. Because of this, the father left, as he did not want a son such as this in his life. Because of this, Oberyn grew up with his mother for a good fifteen years, alone. Little Oby, however, was told that his father left too go on an adventure to be the greatest magician in the world. A lie to a boy from his mother, for the world was far crueler than it let on.
When Oby turned ten, he discovered the magic that coursed through his veins by the unintentional murder of a black feline walking in front of him. Superstition aside, the discovery of his magic could not have come any sooner, because at his and his mother's discovery, the mother immediately was disgusted in her son's ability, and through mere association, she found herself hating her son more and more for the departure of her husband. No amount of magic tricks or love and affection from Oby seemed to please his mother. And after two years of attempting to cover up a rough patch, Oby just quit trying.
It wasn't until Oby left three years later, that she attempted to make him stay, to keep him in abuse. To hate him, it was the only thing she had of her husband left, and she loved to hate him so. Oberyn, practically being clung onto to stay, following him all the way to a fountain. Oberyn made the best magic trick he could come up with on short notice, turned her into a canine abomination. Well, on a reflective surface, he did anyways, she could only see herself as one. And he spoke to her, the first time he really sassed his elders. "A bitch like you deserves to be damned." Soon after, he left his tear-ridden mother, who saw herself as ugly as what she saw her son to be.
As Oberyn made his leave, he made his way to a nearby desert town. Stole food, which he was actually good at. And money too. But when he was caught, he attempted to cast magic to escape... which usually backfired. [WIP]
