Nina rosaline Popov
Honest Merchant
Beastfolk | Seventeen | Female |
Lawful Neutral | Savant | Merchant |
appearance, Nina is cursed with youth. While she is rather young to be a merchant at the age of seventeen, she appears to be a girl much younger. Her youthful face, small size, and clear complexion bring out this illusion. She's a bit on the short side standing only 5' 2" tall. Her hair grows more than her, currently reaching her waist. It is a blueish purple in color. Her bright blue eyes draw more attention than her hair. They shine like two gems. Her choice of attire matches her lifestyle. She prefers to wear elegant dresses with plenty of frills and ribbons. It's a personal preference that she adopted when she could afford them. Now she would rather go naked than to not wear one of her many many dresses. Nina's bestial blood is on the thicker side for beastfolk, though she does her best to cover it up as to put clients as ease. Her most offputting feature would be her tail with is similar to a scorpions with spines rather than a stinger. She has a pair of small leathery wings that aren't any good at keeping her in the air. Her arms and legs are covered in soft fur ending in claws on every one of her digits. Gloves, boots, and her dresses do a fine job of hiding all of these traits from the world. | personality, This merchant has two sides that anyone who does business with her will know. When you've got coin and act with integrity she is a fine lass. However, if you try to cheat her or her clients she will be a monster. She's a firm believer in the power of money. Nina can be abrasive to work with. She's not one to sweat about her pricing and she doesn't like to trust others when it comes to appraisal. Everything has value and you have to respect that. While she believes coin is always the first and best way to handle deals, value isn't decided by gold alone. Nina has a saying that's become somewhat known for. "You could always pay in blood." Of course she means performing some duties for her, but even blood has it's own value. She absolutely loathes cheats, thieves, and scoundrels. Taking what you desire is barbaric. They are the ones who need to pay in blood, thrice over. She has been lucky that everyone caught trying to steal from her have done so publicly. They would likely have suffered a worse fate if they were not promptly taken out of her sight. Nina has difficult switching out of business mode. Everyone is a client and she doesn't do deals for friends. This is why many keep her at a professional distance, which is fine with her for the most part. |
history,
Nina's family has been beastfolk as far back as anyone can remember. They've never held up any strict clans to keep their heritage strong. Her father was a lion beastfolk with light blood, but her mother was a powerful manticore-type. Her blood was particularly potent and she passed that down to her daughter. Her mother was an adventurer of sorts. She would do odd jobs to make money and spend it to go see far away places. Her father wanted a home and managed to wrangle her in to a quiet house life.
Nina was the fourth of seven children. She has two older brothers, an older sister, two younger sisters, and a younger brother. She was a middle children, but she was her mother's unspoken favorite. They were very similar in appearance, but polar opposites personality-wise. Nina wanted to get a castle and live like nobles. Her siblings often ridiculed her for having such ambitions when their family was so low status-wise.
At the age of fourteen, Nina left to learn from an academy what she could about trading. She'll admit that they had many good lessons to teach, but she couldn't wait for them to go through all of them. After a few months she left to conduct her own business. It was rough at first. She dealt with mostly gems. She didn't make much coin, and what she did come across was weaseled away from her. Still, she put her best foot forward and fought and fought.
She got lucky, that's the only way she can put it. An older man was looking for something in particular. A ring with a specific assortment of jewels encrusted in it. Nina happened to have the very thing he was looking for. He didn't have any gold to pay her with, but he gave her dozens of gems many times more valuable than the ring he wanted. She sold his gems and smartly invested her gold. She watched her hefty sum multiple in hands allowing her to expand her business to clothing and other accessories. Before she knew it she was dealing with just about anything.
Most of her money goes back into her shop and what extra she has she ends up sending back to her family. Her dream is to find that man and pay him back all of the extra gems he gave her. It drives her mad sometimes knowing that she owes someone so much and cannot do anything about it.
