THE TAMER
ELF | TWENTY-ONE | FEMALE |
LAWFUL GOOD | WARRIOR | PHANTASM BREAKER |
appearance, When you see Haushinka, you see a dancer. Straight, thick, and bright cerulean hair cascades down to her waist, with two small braids looping around the back of her head and meeting under a tiny, centered ponytail, a signature style of hers. When on a quest, though, it’s usually found tied up in a high ponytail to keep it out of the way. She does have bangs, but they only reach her thin, arched eyebrows and are never a hindrance. Rounded eyes the color of her hair, almost cyan in color, convey a layered look of understanding and profound comprehension, a wisdom beyond the owner’s years. A snub nose and thin lips make for a delicate visage, with long, triangular ears pointed outwards. Haushinka has porcelain, mostly unblemished skin, though she can sometimes be seen with new cuts and bruises from a particularly feisty creature. It’s strange how she manages to maintain such a pale complexion when she’s always out in the sun, but that’s elven skin for you. Haushinka has the build of, as mentioned above, a ballerina. With hardly any curves to speak of, this elf maintains a slender, delicate build. She’s rather petite as well, though not unusually so. It’s obvious that she isn’t cut out for more rigorous physical strain, which strains her fighting ability, but luckily she’s as agile as a mouse and has unusually high stamina. With light steps that are almost undetectable to those without the means to hear them and nimble, acrobatic movements, she can dodge attacks with ease and usually defeats her opponent by whittling them down little by little, attacking with a flurry of rapid movements and then dancing back before her opponent strikes. Unfortunately, this technique only works on opponents that are slow, so if someone who is fighting her is fast and strong, then she’ll be beaten after a couple minutes or so. Her clothing is normally worn for comfort and resilience, though she has a couple fancy garments for special occasions. Most of her raiments incorporate various shades of blue and white, her favorite colors. | personality, The first aspect you'll notice about Haushinka is that she is very, very quiet. She never speaks, nor does she hum or even make a laughing noise. No sound comes from her mouth, ever. Why is that? She's mute. It's not that she refuses to speak, it's that she simply can't, as she was born with ripped vocal cords. As such, she totes a couple sheets of parchment, some quills, and an inkwell everywhere she goes, just in case she needs to tell someone something specific. Surprisingly enough, though, she doesn't have to use it much (unless showing people she just met a page that says "I'm mute"), since she's so expressive that her feelings are easily conveyed even to the less empathetic with her flurry of movements and expressions. Being such an open book does have it's downsides, as people can almost always tell what she's thinking, but it helps her more than it harms her. Why would she feel the need to lie, anyway? Though reserved, Haushinka isn't shy and is more than willing to meet new people, as long as they can get used to her inability to speak. A gentle but firm individual, you never see her as anything but calm and collected. Affable and approachable but serious, it's easy to become her acquaintance but not her friend. Light trust comes easily to her, but not the deep kind, the type that means sharing all her secrets and profound opinions. Though extremely understanding and wise for her age, she feels that only Phantasms and animals are her only true friends. Which brings us to her occupation. The title "Phantasm breaker" doesn't suit this soft-spoken elf--"Phantasm whisperer" does, though not in a literal sense, obviously. To the amazement and incredulity of everyone around her, a single touch can calm a bucking creature down, a solitary smile can dull a Phantasm's urge to attack. Some beasts manage to break through her seemingly hypnotic actions, but even then she can stop them from rampaging with a firm tap of the flat of her rapier. She's never seen without an animal or Phantasm by her side, and they often exchange nuanced, meaningful looks. Onlookers are confused by their shared implications that they cannot understand themselves. As a pacifist and a tamer, Haushinka doesn't like to fight, but she will if she has to. And be careful, because this woman is more than you bargain for... |
history,
As soon as Haushinka was born in the city of Cydonia to a family of small-time animal and Phantasm tamers, her parents could tell that something was wrong with her. She didn't cry and scream upon being born, as every other normal newborn did, instead staring blankly up with cyan oculars. The midwife and her parents panicked--was she dead? Was she blind and deaf? Then her father recalled that, in his bloodline, muteness was a genetic problem found in every other generation of his. Luckily for him, he wasn't afflicted with it, but it seemed that his child was.
That didn't make them love her any less, though, compassionate characters they were. Haushinka grew in a gentle but firm household, which ultimately impacted her personality. There were animals and a couple Phantasms scattered everywhere, all of which the child loved, but the one she adored the most was a feisty mountain lion cub named Cobalt.
Mary had a little lamb, and Haushinka had a little cougar. Everywhere she went, Cobalt followed too, and the two of them became best friends, something akin to family as well. Her parents were delighted that she had such a close companion, but were excited as well. They had tried to tame the little animal in the past multiple times, but he maintained his temperamental personality and they gave up soon. But little eight-year-old Haushinka had managed to befriend him in a matter of days, and they noticed that she had the same effect on other creatures around the household.
Eager to develop the child's prodigious skill, the parents visited the official Phantasm Breaker at the time. Caelum, toting Haushinka with them and asking if he would consider the elf to be his apprentice. Skeptical, the man ordered her to befriend a seemingly emotionless wolf cub, confident that she couldn't do it. To his immense surprise, and her parents' delight, the child somehow accomplished it in a matter of hours with the wolf cub much more obedient and willing in her presence.
So Haushinka became Caelum's apprentice and trained for hours every day under his strict rule, rapidly developing her affinity for beasts. At the age of fifteen she began lessons under a rapier instructor since the Phantasm Breaker recommended them, as being able to wield a sword would aid her in her work. She wasn't so interested in this but obediently learned how to use a rapier, though she was never a natural.
When she was eighteen years old, Caelum died in an accident with a frenzied hydra in the Cydonian cavalry, suddenly thrusting upon her the responsibility of the Phantasm breaker of Cydonia. This threw her in a loop, as there was still much she needed to learn. After grieving, she set to work on visiting Caelum's massive library on a regular basis to read all the scrolls he wrote about Phantasm and animal taming. She took on the job of taming mounts for the Cydonian cavalry and did a very good job of it too with her almost supernatural affinity with animals and Phantasms. And that's where we find her now.
