Type of Lore:
Hero
Name of Lore:
Gorefiend
Details:
A hero whose story is simple, but whose veneration is deeply contested. Legend tells of a kingdom that once existed in the Draconian mountains themselves in the time of Dragoon, that was comprised of warriors that were Dragon Slayers. Chief amongst these brave men and women was a diminutive queen who ruled the Kingdom with a just hand named Elizabeth Gorefiend. She was said to be just short of five feet tall, but despite this wielded a blade named Wyrmtail whose name came from it's sheer size, and was able to command the mystical armor of her family: Gorefiend. Gorefiend was said to be an insatiable armor of unknown origin which turned it's wearer into an invincible killing machine, but against friend and foe alike. What made Elizabeth Gorefiend so unique was that she possessed the mental fortitude to withstand the armor's corrupting influence, but also the skill and candor to feed it the blood of dragons which is where the armor and her family received their names (the demonic image of them tearing through their opponents and fueling themselves on their gore and guts made them Gorefiends). Elizabeth gained her title as she was the last of her line, but this was because she dissolved the monarchy of her kingdom and her people migrated to Ba'dagar. However when the Dragons heard of this they attacked in full force and even the Fundamental Serpent Sturmkind attended the battle in an attempt to wipe out her people while they were vulnerable in the migration. Elizabeth declared that for the first time in her life the dragons had truly brought out her ire and was said to unlock the full power of the Wyrmtail blade and Gorefiend armor. Her final cleave is said to be so horrendously massive she severed the great reptile, who was said to be the length of Cydonia's forest, in twain and for decades later caused the sky around the mountains to be stained deep red thus leaving her with the title of She Who Broke the Sky. Since that fight Elizabeth retired happily and her line ended as her children married commoners and went on with happy, if mundane lives.
The problem with worshipping Gorefiend is two-fold. The first is that there are those who dislike her use of the Gorefiend Armor, and say that her 'reliance' on it was tantamount to having a Pact or worshipping a Divine. The second is what tends to cause the first. The idea of a peaceful, dragon-slaying Kingdom before Dragoon diminishes the importance of Dragoon himself. The idea of such a kingdom existing that could slay such massive beasts as Sturmkind also draws out a fear that Terra's ancestors mayhaps have simply been too weak until Dragoon. However in secret, she is worshiped not unlike a true God of War, as she is considered the Little Girl that Could in friendly terms and represents unlimited amounts of courage enhanced by uncontested acts of supreme destruction.
