So now that the mess of dealing with the goblins was over, Zevran had hoped to get some rest. He was battered and bruised, admittedly not nearly so badly as one of his companions was, and he would have been perfectly content to just sleep away the day in order to prepare to face a dissapointed audience tomorrow as he informed them they had lost a potentially priceless book.
However, that was not to be. Instead he was being all but dragged through Dracon. "Hey, Robin, just where are we going?" She had said something about wanting to catch up, but as it was, he was quickly losing his bearings. "I mean, it is good to see you again, but could you at least fill me in a bit?"
Still, it was kinda nice. Being able to just turn off his brain and let himself get pulled around was a welcome relief, even though he didn't expect it to last for long. Still, it just wasn't in his nature. As they pass a small, but well-lit tavern, he points. "Hey, that place looks okay. Wanna get something to drink?"

Robin paused. He supposed that perhaps he was being a bit overzealous, but this was quite a long time in the making, and he was present so rarely these days that he really did need to make this outing count. Perhaps it was more for his own conscience than anything. He remembered a bit more about their last meeting and why it had been their last than he was willing to admit.
He’d been foolish then. Things had been different then. It was ages ago – long before anyone was calling him the Fox. In those days victories were not certainties. There were still uncrackable lockboxes and homes too heavily guarded to rob. And so, back then, he had very nearly lost his mind trying to think up some scheme to heal his then-ailing father. The Valentine school was well stocked. Zevran had at the time seemed like a perfect avenue through which to gather the information that he’d needed.
And then, just as he was about to put that plan into motion…
Suffice to say he had been (and still was) a bit soft. He could not punish kindness and so he hadn’t, but he had more or less broken off what might have otherwise been a decent friendship. Things were different now, though. Gone were those old insecurities. The Fox was effectively uncatchable and Robin had more gold than he’d ever need.
So now they could indeed have a drink and he could use said drink to drown his guilt.
“Yes, alright.” He said with a smile. “Really I’d hoped to find someplace familiar, but…you might be on to something. Anyhow, my treat.”

Zevran blinks. "Well, if you want to find someplace else, that's fine." As Robin seems fine heading in there, he shrugs. "Whatever. At least now I can take a seat sooner..."
As they shuffled inside the tavern, they find it decently populated, but not enough that there's any trouble finding a seat or getting drinks. Getting a flagon of beer from the barkeeper, he shuffles over to a table away from the front of the tavern.
He wasn't sure about letting Robin pay for the drinks, and he was half tempted to let his own coins clink on the bar. From what he could remember, Robin hadn't been in a very good financial state. Between a sick father and a store that didn't really appeal to the widest audience, he'd felt perfectly in his rights trying to help out. And judging by the fact he was a mercenary killing goblins for coin, that might not have improved too much. But in the end, he doesn't. He didn't want to get into an argument about it, and he figured he'd just pay for the next time if they ended up hanging out again later.
Pulling up another chair, he takes a drink from the beer. It wasn't the best, but it was better than most he'd get for the price. "So...how about those goblins, huh? That was kinda weird seeing you out and about like that. Business not been good, or did you just want to exercise or something?" He'd probably know if business was good if he'd been home himself more often...but that wasn't here nor there.

He was a bit surprised by the question at first, but once he thought about it he supposed he understood. He admittedly wasn’t all that familiar with combat. Mercenary worked seemed to him to be an excellent want to familiarize himself with it, but to the rest of the world it must have looked a bit…well, sad, really.
These days Galen’s shop was doing far better than it had in years. In truth, though, that didn’t mean much. They appealed to a very small crowd and so without the hoard that Robin had accumulated over these past few years as the Fox, they’d almost certainly have been broke. Zevran likely though that this mercenary work was a last ditch effort to keep them afloat. He had no alternative story.
“Oh, you know, it’s…something new.” He said somewhat awkwardly. “We’re doing alright. A little extra coin in your pocket is never bad, though. What about you? What have you been up to?”

Zevran shrugs. “I hope it was a good kind of new then. I certainly wouldn't mind never having to do it again...”
Robin's question asked a fair bit more of him, and he takes a sip as he ponders that. “Well, the library certainly picked up a lot more work for me...or they just think I'm competent enough to take on more of it. Whopee.”
He grumbles for a bit, before shaking his head. “Sometimes I wonder if I'm losing out on chances to study more of the abstract, increase my aptitude by doing this kind of work. That kinda worries me. I just hope I'm not reducing my chances to be something worth something by doing this.”
He blinks, then smiles a bit. “Wait, I'm not drunk enough to be talking like this. Down the hatch, I guess.” With that, he downs his glass. “Hey, it kinda tastes better if you take it down like that. I'm glad to hear you guys are still doing alright.” Tilting his head a bit, he shrugs. “I hope it's not still a sore subject, but you really should come to the library sometime. If you're going to be taking over the stall, it's the best place to be learning 'bout that kinda stuff.”
