A small antique shop on the corner of an aged alleyway, the shop itself had seen better days. Hanging on the outside a sign swayed gently with the breeze, Relic and Oddities painted across the wooden board giving this shop a name. Inside dust had settled on many of the useless items scattered about the shelves, despite this there was still dust in the air making the very building smell like an old library. At the far end of the shop Kairu sat stretching his legs out across the counter, he sat looking into a old looking mirror with a concentrated effort of trying to look perfect. He was in the process of re-braiding his hair, there had not been a single customer that day or the day before that. In fact it would be more accurate to say that Kairu had not seen a customer in a very long time. Sure enough there were plenty of jobs that could be done, Kairu could list them all off by heart by now. Was he going to do them? Nope.
A small ray of sunlight came through a hole in the roof shining off of Kairu's hair, he allowed himself to bathe in this golden glowing warmth. Soaking it all up he enjoyed every moment of it before the sun went back behind the clouds, the weather was average outside not a day to write home about. He took a look at the shop once more, all along the shelves various so called magical artifacts lined the shop in a chaotically organized fashion. He inhaled the air through his nose, he took all the smells into account. The musty smell of old books, the smell of aged metal and wood and the damp coming from under the floorboards all giving the building a character of it's own. Next he began to take in all the sounds the scurrying of small mice hiding behind various cracks in the walls, the creaking of an old building and even the humming of people outside in the busy street. The shop was set just off to a side of a large market square, it was in a prime location if they had anything to sell that people actually wanted.
"Come to think of it where is Joran today? it makes a change him not yelling at me to work..." Kairu mused out loud, usually an indication that he was bored. He should of got a book to read before he sat down to relax, to get one now would be far too much effort. His thoughts drifted onto food, what exactly was for dinner? Kairu just hoped it tasted good, Joran was not the best of cooks in his opinion. He hated most of the food he was given and usually complained about it, Kairu was a fussy eater after all. The recent money troubles however had meant that Joran was getting more stingy with the food, a decent portion was all Kairu asked for but did he ever get any? Yeah that would be a day to remember. Kairu thought he heard the door chime ring, he dismissed it instantly however surely nobody would come to this dump of a shop.

| WHAT HAVE I DONEWITH MY HEART ON THE FLOOR. I MUST BE OUT OF MY MIND TO COME BACK BEGGING FOR MORE. BUT IF YOU STAY, AND IF YOU JUST STAY FOR THE NIGHT. SWEAR THAT I'M YOURS AND I'LL PROVE THAT I'M RIGHT. Today was a very important day. To anyone else, it would have been just another day, but today was the day.
On this very day, with the sun shining brightly and not a single cloud in the sky, Auros wandered the busy streets of the market district. There weren't any stalls that sold many items that would be deemed appropriate or at least enough. It didn't matter how hard the vendor tried, they couldn't over-glorify their products. Each one seemed too... inadequate.
Auros was starting to lose hope. He couldn't find the perfect one for him. All seemed lost until his eyes set upon a building just off to the side of the market square. It was safe to say he had never given the tiny shop a chance. Sure he saw it multiple times on one of his many patrols, but to take a gander at its contents never really came to mind. Today was going to be different.
His hand pressed against the doorknob and he wrapped his fingers around it. He pushed it open and he was immediately hit with the smell of aging antiquities. It wasn't off-putting but it was unexpected. The man-at-arms took a step in, a small creak in the door hinge echoing in the seemingly desolate shop.
"Hello?" He called out into the perceived emptiness. |

As a voice cut through the background noise that Kairu had been listening to, he found himself falling from the counter startled by the newcomer. So much for a day off, Kairu slowly peered over the top of the counter stopping to allow only his eyes to come above it. He scanned the shop for the source of the voice his eyes almost glowing in the dim light. The first thing he spotted was also the first thing he commented on.
"Oooh, so red." Kairu spoke louder than he had intended, however the man that stood at the entrance of the shop certainly had the reddest of hair that Kairu had ever seen. The man held himself like someone who knew his way about a fight, however he did not come across as the rough sort to be a mercenary. He was dressed in what Kairu saw as rather simple and dull clothes, not style to them whatsoever. Kairu himself was wearing a rather stylish looking brown leather coat with overturned cuffs, his top was made of fine black silk, his trousers were a dark grey cotton and finally he wore a pair of tanned leather hide boots. Kairu stood up from behind the counter, rather upset that he would have to actually do his job. Kairu would try to get rid of this customer as quickly as possible so that he could get back to his day off, he smiled a rather wry smile toward the gentleman at the door of Relic and Oddities.
"Good morning fine sir, how may I help you today?" Kairu put on his best respectable merchant act, he was really not in the mood for a customer however he had been in the business long enough to know how to fake good cheer. This man seemed like he was after something specific, most people usually were if they entered this dusty old place. A thought then struck Kairu.
"You are here to buy something right?" Kairu realized that if he did not at least make a sale today there may not be any dinner for him later. The very idea made his stomach growl slightly, he decided to ignore it hoping the other man would to maybe he could pass it off as a creaky floorboard. Kairu wondered what exactly would bring someone into this shop, most of the things in here were just junk. Sure maybe somewhere there was a magical artefact that the old man had been lucky to get a hold of, however a magic mirror for example that could reflect any image back was just the same as any other mirror that Kairu had come across. Surely whatever this man was looking for it was not in here.

SWEAR THAT I'M YOURS AND I'LL PROVE THAT I'M RIGHT. To encounter someone with ears standing behind the counter was no real surprise to him. Actually, he was quite glad he ran into someone like the person across the room.
"Afternoon," Auros gave a small smile, closing the door behind him after stepping in.
A tiny groan shuffled through the air. 'Must be the floorboards,' he concluded.
From what he could gather up from all the relics laying about and whatnot, there was surely something in there that could prove to be the missing ingredient. The warrior walked up to the counter, dressed in his normal garb. It was a plain white shirt with brown pants and suspenders holding up his trousers. Upon his arrival to the counter, Auros placed his hands on his hips and looked around at what was nearby.
"How are you today?" He asked, as cliche as it was. "I'm looking for a gift for a special somebody. It doesn't have to be super fancy, but something elegant would be nice." Auros wasn't really looking for something over the top. A bracelet of some sort would have been nice or a necklace or a golden ring would have been great as well. "It's for a special woman in my life," Verr chuckled. Hell, it could have been a book or a nice mirror.
"Got anything that would be appropriate?"
Why he was being so vague, he didn't really know. He felt it was a way of protecting his identity and family if he approached most conversations like this. |

It was afternoon already?! Kairu was rather surprised, time had managed to slip away from him so fast. The man in question was being rather vague about exactly what he was after, he claimed it was for a lady friend of his. Kairu was now intrigued perhaps this customer could be interesting after all, he was willing to see where this would lead. He walked over towards the man, glad that he had not picked up on Kairu's growling stomach. On closer inspection of the man his eyes were as red as his hair, they looked almost similair to Kairu's left eye. He had the air of a disciplined man about him, it was possible this man was or had been a soldier at some point.
"I am well thank you, how are you this fine afternoon?" Kairu replied out of politeness. He gestured down to the side of the shop, before walking over to a display case area full of old jewellery, despite Kairu originally protesting to the idea he was glad that Joran had made him tidy up the place a bit.
"We have a dragon's horde of gems, jewellery and trinkets. Is there anything there that takes your fancy?" Kairu was hoping for the man to give him a bit more to go on, Kairu decided to take a stab in the dark. He held up a necklace made out of fine white gold, attached to it was a crumpled oak leaf carved from wood that was speckled with ruby. It was not exactly the most extravagant thing in the shop however, it was not the grubbiest either. It was simple, yet elegant and from first glance probably well within this man's price range. Although Kairu was not sure exactly what that would be, he had a good eye for many things being able to size even people up from a simple first look. This man however seemed to have a slight air of mystery, why did he seem so intent on being vague?
"This here would make a fine present, something a lady would find very proud to wear around her neck. It is at a very good price also." Kairu had been tempted to go with the gaudiest piece of jewelery in the shop in an attempt to bait the man out of his vagueness, manners however dictated otherwise. He waited to see how the man would respond to this.

Auros followed the man off to the side of the shop, where a beautiful collection of jewels and gems were displayed. "Well, I was doing quite alright but now that I see the options you have, I'm a bit overwhelmed," he aired, scratching the back of his head.
With all of the choices strewn out in front of him, it was going to be a difficult decision on what to get. How in the world was he supposed to choose between all of these? He began to account for all the little things this woman liked or what she did on a daily basis that would do best to represent her. That was when the kind shop owner pulle a dazzling piece of art from the display.
His oddly shaped eyebrows raised in surprise, a reaction to how the accessory looked. The thought of purchasing that exact piece of jewelry sat well in his mind, but he had a few questions before he bought something from such a place. It was quiet in here with barely any customers. Something about the place made him suspicious as to what was being sold here. It wouldn't have been the first time Auros came across a hexed item and he wasn't willing to lose another person in his life, especially a loved one.
"It's certainly stunny," Auros lifted one of his hands to grasp the air around the oak leaf. His hands hover just over the metallic surface. "Is there any sort of... spell on this?" Red orbs met the heterochromatic eyes of the other. Anger and suspicion welled up within the man's chest.
"It would make a great gift, but if there's some sort of black magic hidden beneath the surface, I don't want to be near it."

The man seemed to like the item as far as Kairu could tell, he had a small triumphant cheer inside for his excellent choice. Kairu paused at the mention of black magic, he was slightly offended and it showed on his face. The old man may have been a bit eccentric in Kairu's opinion however, he was damn sure good at his job. Kairu's eyes narrowed as the other man met his gaze. Although only a mere second had passed it dragged on for what seemed like aeons, those fierce red eyes full of fire and accusation.
"Listen, you walked into this shop. Nobody asked you to do it, you want to throw around accusations like that then maybe you should leave. The old geezer never let any such thing into this shop and I have made sure nothing has since his passing, I have done this long enough to know by now." Kairu proceeded to put the necklace on to futher prove his point, he stared at it for a moment. He gazed around the shop briefly, his face seemed to soften as if some outer force had calmed him. He removed the necklace and held it out to the man, gesturing that he take a look for himself.
"It is claimed that whoever wears this necklace will have great fortune should in any endeavors they pursue, how much of that is true is beyond me. I have seen some strange things in the small amount of time I have been here in this world, so I would not merely brush it off as superstitious nonsense." Kairu had no skepticism in his voice when he said this, however there was still a hint of upset in his voice. He would not hesitate to throw a customer out if they insulted Joran and the old geezer's shop, this place felt more like home than anywhere he had ever been before. Kairu turned away from the man, making his way to the counter at the end of the shop.
"If you want it, I will sell it to you less than it's actual value since you are so suspicious of it. I will even take personal responsibility, just leave the shop out of it." This was the side Kairu he rarely displayed, the defensive and caring nature he had towards that which was dear to him. He sat on the counter and swung his legs up on the counter, no longer trying to keep up the appearance of a good salesman. He sat back in the now returned golden rays of light that came through the few holes in the ceiling, it bathed him in a bright hue highlighting his hair and almost reflecting the sunlight out from it.
"10 Gold pieces." Kairu said in a very disinterested manner he was being genuine about lowering the price, that piece of jewelry was at least 70 gold normally. He did not want to be responsible for anyone's demise, he had been around too much death as it was.

Mm. It had seemed the unintentional jab to feel out the mystique behind the accessory was taken as some sort of offensive remark and it showed. The salesman even went and tried it on. It was only a mere question and a statement. Was it that hard to be safe about purchasing an item from a shop he and never been to?
"Mm." Auros had his back turned to the gentleman now sitting on the counter. At this point, he was tempted to walk out but leaving empty-handed would mean arriving to the special occasion empty handed. That was the last thing he wanted to do.
"I'll take it." However, for the price that the merchant had dropped it to, he felt uneasy about taking it. Though it was a steal, it was not going to sit well with him afterwards. Auros turned on his heels and placed a total of 55 gold pieces on the counter. It was all he had, save for the five gold pieces he was saving for flowers.
Auros took the gift in his hand and stared at it. It was beautiful indeed and it was worth more than the gold he had bought it for. "I apologize for offending you," Verr took up the device and looked to the person now a few feet in front of him. "Have a good day, shopkeep."
There was nothing else for him at this point. The redhead wanted no more of the pointy-eared man. If he was going to take his precautionary questions as an offense, why bother trying to mend the broken relationship between buyer and seller.

Kairu's eyes widened slightly as the man place the gold on the table, his brow furrowed slightly ignoring the man's farewell he sighed. "... Man... so much effort." He muttered under his breath more about himself than the man in the shop. "Is she worth it? This lady friend of yours? From the looks of things you have already tried everywhere else looking for something today." Kairu was by no means stupid, people usually came in here for something specific or had ran out of options. The question was posed with a sincere interest through his tone, even if his half asleep expression on his face came across as otherwise.
He felt guilty about laying into the man, he could understand him being suspicious of a shop he has never been in before. Kairu had been a bit defensive, he berated himself inside for getting so worked up. He had yet to accept the man's money, he was now looking at him with genuine interest no more fake jolly merchant. It was just man and beastfolk, eye to eye. Kairu had no idea why he felt such to get to know this man, perhaps he felt responsible for the rudeness displayed earlier. He would stake his life on the item not being cursed, however that was not guarantee enough for this man clearly. He still came across as sceptical about it, Kairu was sat on upright on the counter now swinging his legs off of the edge. His boots clunked against the counter every so often as he did so, they seemed to take up their own little rhythm.
