I wield my blade ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ for the sake of everyone Although Hilda didn't pay it much mind, for some of the people of Andor it was times like these that she often got more recognition with the people. Some feared the position of "Representative of all Humans" made her too big to handle the little things, so when she did take the time to go deal with a more minor problem personally, some felt it was a good sign. To her, it was just a matter of doing what needed to be done and there wasn't even really a recognition factor about it. Her job was to do what was good for the people and that was what she was doing.
As the group of four marched in the Terran Plains just beyond sight of Andor, she took another look at the group she'd managed to muster. She refused to call on any guards for it since they needed to defend the city-state, so she took volunteers to aid in the effort, and volunteers she certainly got. One was a worker at the library that she believed she may have seen once or twice, the other two she didn't quite recognize. A man in pretty obvious mage robes, the other in a bit more practical attire with a rather large satchel. She had caught mention of their names before, but it would probably be good to double checking.
"I know we had a small introduction before, but that didn't really tell much and we are about to go into battle with one another." Hilda began, turning to face them with a clink of her armor. Undoing the quick release strap from her back, she gripped her halberd in one hand, "My name is Hilda Brandr. As you can probably guess, I wield a halberd and my specialty is in close combat. I will defend you all to the best of my ability."

The plains Guy found himself on were apparently called the Central Plains. Somewhere near here was a nest of Goblins, filthy phantasms who preyed on the weak. Such monstrosities should be dealt with swiftly and it seems that's just what the fearless leader of this expedition felt as well.
A woman with fiery red hair who went by the name Hilda. Not that Guy doubted that Hilda wasn't really her name, not everyone had to go by a name they chose because they couldn't remember their real one. "Hello, I go by Guy. I seem to be a mage and am willing to help however." He introduced himself. "I wish I could tell you more." He looked forward to to finding out more about those he would be working with.

Zevran shrugs, and gives the lady a nod. "Well, that's nice to hear."
It had been a fairly decent march out of here. He should've gotten used to traveling by now, but each time it never ceased to take the wind out of him. He has to stop and catch his breath for a bit, but manages to resist the urge to slump down. "You can call me Zevran. I'm a mage, in case that wasn't obvious. I work for the Valentine School Library."
He tilts his head over at the two other traveling companions. "But...if I'm not mistaken, you both should already know who I am? Or am I getting my faces mixed up again?" He was positive he knew the blond boy, even if he couldn't quite place the name...he was so bad with names! The other...he thought he saw him around the academy, but other than that, couldn't be sure. Although, judging by what he said, that could very likely be wrong and he didn't know him after all.
He heaves a sigh, turning back to their leader. "The Valentine School thought I'd be the best for this kind of situation. Goblins do tend to travel in mobs, after all. And there weren't any retrieval actions currently underway that were as pressing, and most other people in the group are out, so..."
He coughs, moving a bit out of the way so he could address all three of his companions. "Um, if I could make a request? My assignment, outside of helping cull the Goblins and recover the caravans as a whole, was to recover a specific book. It's a first edition copy of "Necrosis," absolutely ancient as far as texts go. It was coming in to be appraised, it's claimed that this one in particular has original notes written by Demetrik himself. Obviously if this ends up being true..." he catches himself to stop his rambling. "Needless to say it's very valuable, and I'd appreciate any help you can give that doesn't compromise the mission at large."

This looked like an interesting bunch. Robin didn’t know many mages. He wasn’t sure why that was, seeing as most of the things that he and his father sold at their shop seemed better suited for mages and scholars than the average person. Perhaps he had indeed met a few of them without realizing it. The majority of them probably didn’t wear elaborate robes and cloaks outside of battle. Thankfully the woman, Hilda, seemed sturdy enough to support their alarmingly thin little party.
At first he had no idea what that blue-tinted mage meant in saying that they ought to already know each other. Zevran…hm. He wouldn’t forget a name like Zevran. After a moment of consideration it came rushing back to him all at once and he smiled widely.
“Well, I’ll be damned.” He muttered. “It’s been a while.”
More than a while. It had been years ago if he was remembering correctly. “After we get your book, I’ll need to take you out. We’ve got a lot of catching up to do.”
Then he turned back to the group, his smile still wide. He bowed his head respectfully and introduced himself. “As for me, I’m Robin. Very good to meet you. I’m fairly new to all of this, but I’ve been told I’m resourceful, so we’ll see.”

I wield my blade ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ for the sake of everyone "Guy, Zevran, Robin, a pleasure to be serving with you all," Hilda nodded in kind to each of them, both an acknowledgement and a proper greeting. She took a moment to consider Zevran's words in particular, since his came with a request from Dracon. It was specifically from the Valentine School for Mages, but it was within the confines of Dracon, and that city was considered shared territory between the three races. Ignoring such a thing would more or less be a slap to the face for what it and everything stood for, even if it was relatively minor, but she couldn't be a total optimist about it.
"Zevran, I will do what I can to aid you in that request. Should the goblins have left their ill-gotten gains unspoiled, then the tome you seek is most likely there. Either way, we will likely need to bring down the goblins to reach it, so it should not inhibit our mission." her answer was realistic, but hopeful for the results everyone wanted. It seemed everybody was on the same page and was willing to work together though, so with that she turned back to the path they were marching on. It was just far enough off the main road that it was possibly within the goblin territory, and it could hardly even be called a "path". It was more just the direction off the main road that she brought them on, but they hadn't changed direction so it would not be difficult to find the way back.
Leading the merry band to the top of an incline to get a vantage point, she caught a glimpse of a goblin at the top of another, smaller hill. It was hard to mistake it for anything else; it was a small humanoid frame, too thin to be a tiny elf but with a large nose and jaw, and had skin of a sickly green color. It ducked behind the very same hill she saw it on, and after taking a look below saw that it was a small enough gap between the top of the incline and the ground to make a single jump down. Tightening her grip on her halberd, Hilda decided it was time to act, "Prepare your weapons, our enemies are near."
And with that declaration, she leaped down from the incline and took her halberd in both hands, advancing on the hill the goblin ducked behind.

With introductions out of the way, Guy now knew the names of the entire group. Hilda their fiery-haired leader, Zevran a mage from what Guy had learned was the capital, and Robin, a young man also from the capital. "I'm sorry but I don't recall your face." Guy answered his fellow mage. "I'm not able to recall a much at the moment."
Guy quickly followed their fearless leader, catching up with her as the other two began chatting, apparently Zevran and Robin had been acquainted prior. "Hilda, I am curious, how long have these goblins been raiding caravans?" He inquired. "I must not have heard that when we started."
Over a nearby hill Hilda had spotted a lone creature. Guy followed her gaze and latched his eyes on what was undoubtedly a goblin. As soon as they got close the goblin disappeared behind the hill and Hilda chased after it. Guy himself rushed to the top and readied his staff. "Hilda! How many are there?"

Zevran nods at their leader. "That's about all I can ask. I appreciate it." The mages at the library knew that retrieving this from goblins wouldn't be likely, they tended to be just as likely to put any non-shiny gains they got to the torch as to see it might be worth something.
Following along on the march, he shrugs as his fellow mage mentions that he doesn't recognize him. "Eh, might've just been mistaken. Could've sworn I saw you around the Valentine school though, did you study there?" When he goes on to say he doesn't remember much at all, Zevran frowns. "Are you sick or something? Have you been seen by a healer?"
As the other man introduces himself, the memory clicks in Zevran's head. "Robin! Aha, yeah, it's been a long time." He shrugs. "Well, I wouldn't mind. It's been a good year or three, so we shouldn't have problems finding things to talk about."
As the march continues, Zevran sees the goblin, but doesn't press forward. Seeing his companions move, though, his eyes widen. "Wait! It could be a trap! We don't know what's on the other side of those hills!" Still, he tried his best to keep pace with them, if they were running headlong into a trap, if he couldn't dissuade them from it, they had to come at it with everything they had.

What a wonderful day this was turning out to be. Smiling lightly to himself, Robin produced his bow and tested the string once more for luck than anything. This was new ground. He really wasn’t in the least bit combat oriented, but he was young yet – he figured he wasn’t so set in his ways that he couldn’t try to pick up a few new tricks. Goblins were lovely because they were both simple and greedy. Practice was priceless, but gold…gold was precious.
He didn’t run. No need – he needed to put a bit of distance between him and his target if his arrows were to be even a little bit effective. He stopped just short of the top of the hill and settled in a place where he could see over it, but he doubted that anyone below could get a clear shot at him. Provided there was anyone below that Hilda hadn’t already clobbered.
Readying the bow, he took one arrow from the quiver on his back and searched for something to aim at. At the very least he would have no trouble avoiding Hilda and the mages. They were so damned bright-looking.

I wield my blade ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ for the sake of everyone It may very well be a trap. It could be goblin carelessness. It could have just been a beneficial coincidence. There were a lot of explanations why they were able to find that goblin, or what may be beyond the hill. Zevran had a valid point and depending on the circumstances, she may have agreed and waited. Thankfully I prepared to encounter Goblins, their poisons won't work on me. She thought to herself as she reached the peak of the hill, looking down the other side. Her gaze was met by several pairs of beady eyes.
"Five!" she shouted, immediately ducking back a few steps as multiple Goblins hopped out from beyond the hill, thrusting coated knives at her. Though the brunt of their thrusts were mitigated by her vambrace, she felt multiple pricks as they got through to break the skin on her upper arm. She was extremely grateful she had prepared for their poisons, or she would not be feeling well right now.
"I will take the brunt of their assault, strike from out of their reach!" Her words were followed with the swing of her halberd, striking the closest goblin with the axe-blade and then immediately followed by a thrust of the spear point. It took a solid amount of damage and wasn't in the greatest shape, but it looked confident. After all, all five goblins were surrounding the one of her. They figured if they kept ganging up on her then it wouldn't take too long for them to bring her down. They'd probably learn soon that their poison wasn't working though. With Hilda having charged forward to take the brunt of the damage. Guy held back as his cloth robes wouldn't protect him like her metal armor. He didn't risk drawing attention to himself by calling out to the group and instead began to conjure a Water Bomb.
The mage catapulted his orb of aqua at the goblin closest to Hilda. He then used his staff to send a basic energy bolt towards a different goblin. These beasts seemed easy enough to deal with, Guy was somewhat anxious for when they found the nest.

Zevran sighs as Hilda charges forward, heedless of his warning. It was too late to try and avoid the trap, the only thing to be done was to press on as hard as they could, and hopefully overcome. Running up to crest the hilltop, a sour feeling forms in his gut as their fears are realized. They were outnumbered by the Goblins that were waiting for them...but not by much. They should be able to fight there way out of this.
Weaving the magic together in the one spell he could muster that could help in the situation, Zevran feels the paradoxical heat that is expelled as the moisture in the air forms into ice. After gathering enough shards levitating around his hand, he waves, sending the barbed ice spikes traveling at high speeds, embedding themselves in the body of the goblin troop. Blood splashes, but he shrinks back instead of presses on, muttering to himself. "None of them went down yet...man, why can't today just be over already?"

Robin watched the battle unfold from his perch at the top of the hill. While he wasn’t skilled in archery just yet, he supposed that he could make up for his lack of experience with a couple of well-timed arrows. The others were far more impressive than he was, he decided. There was something so interesting about mages. He didn’t know many, at least not well, and so the longer this went on the more he found himself looking forward to reconnecting with Zevran. And then there was Hilda. She seemed quite sturdy. Good thing too – she’d need it.
Carefully readying an arrow, Robin let it fly at an already heavily injured Goblin. It fell down dead just a half a second later. Smiling lightly to himself, he readied another.

I wield my blade ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ for the sake of everyone The follow up strikes from her comrades finished off the goblin she struck, not to mention softening up the other four. The goblins too realized this, suddenly very much aware of the fact there were more people present than just her. However, they could only really reach two of them, and made the best gang-up tactic they could from it. Two of them thrust their poison coated blades at Hilda once more, while the other two tried to hop around her, making a rush for the next closest they could; Guy.
"Guy! Defend yourself!" she shouted once she realized what they were doing, hoping the other three would prioritize him over her. She could very much take care of herself, gripping her halberd as she quickly and decisively struck the poisoned blades away from her. Her defense was followed by a swift offense, striking one of the goblins with the base of the shaft for her halberd. She could keep fending these two off, they were no problem for her. She was more concerned about her less martially adept allies.
"Zevran, Robin! Focus the ones attacking Guy!" Hilda relayed her thoughts, thinking it the best tactic for now. Out of the corner of her eye, while the goblins were reeling from the defense and counterattack, she saw the other two rushing up to Guy and thrusting their poisoned blades at him. What happened next was a surprise to Guy. "No, no, no, no, no!" He cried as two of the goblins ascended upon him. Sure that might call more of the beasts to him but he expected Zevran and Robin to help back him up. He knew his staff was useless at such close range as this and while he fumbled trying to get his sword out of it's sheath, the quicker goblin managed to get close enough to slash at Guy only to be deflected as soon as Guy managed to get his sword out.
He wasn't so lucky with the other goblin unfortunately. "Argh! Dammit!" He screamed in pain as the second goblin managed to get a complete slash through at Guy. Whatever was laced on those dirty blades the goblins held stung. "I think whatever is on those blades is now in me." With great effort, Guy managed to swing his sword in a clumsy fashion at the attacking goblin. "Take that!"
"Zev," Guy called out to his fellow mage. "Do you happen to know any spell for healing poison? I think that goblin got some in me." He hoped that perhaps the academy mage might be helpful in that department.

Seeing the Goblins run out from around Hilda, Zevran's blood goes cold. He -knew- this would happen, that this was a trap, and Guy might be in real danger. This was bad news and he had to do something, or else things would only get worse for the other mage. Despite his plea, he couldn't heal poison, that shot he did was about his only trick. So in order to help the wounded and poisoned mage, there was only one avenue left to him.
Grumbling to himself, he sighs. "Man, why do I have to do the stupid thing?"
With a shout, he charges at the goblins attacking Guy, and seeing one looking slightly less well off than the other, brings the shaft of his stave down hard on the weaker goblin, hoping to knock it off balance. When that didn't seem to work so well, he brings it back up in a spinning attack, hitting it again. With that done, he sprawls off balance, tumbles on the ground, and desperately tries to pick himself up and run away now that he's probably managed to get the bastard's attention.
"Someone help me now! Gah!"
